Whiting Corporation Helps Keep U.S. Nuclear Standards Up to Date

Thanks to recent efforts at Whiting Corporation, the first major revision of the Seismic Design Requirements specified in the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) NOG-1 Standard, “Rules for Construction of Overhead and Gantry Cranes”, has been completed. The NOG-1 Standard, which was first approved in 1983, is one of two standards controlled by the ASME Standards Committee on Cranes for Nuclear Facilities (CNF). The proposed revisions, which greatly enhance the seismic requirements of this standard, are used for determining the survivability of Overhead and Gantry Cranes during and following an earthquake, and are the result of Whiting Corporation’s dedication to designing and supplying Quality Cranes to the Nuclear Power Industry. Upon approval by the ASME CNF board, the revisions will be included in the next edition of the NOG-1 publication.

Bill Horwath, Manager of Whiting’s Analytical Engineering Group, who was both Author and Project Manager of the revisions to the Seismic Design Requirements, has recently been awarded a Certificate of Acclamation by the ASME Codes and Standards Board of Directors for his contributions in developing these revisions.
