In Memoriam
Raymond E. Gibson
1939 - 2006
Raymond E. Gibson, former President of Whiting Corporation, passed away suddenly on March 11, 2006. Mr. Gibson began his career at Whiting Corporation in 1964, and in 1983 was instrumental in a management buy-out of the company that positioned the company for the continued success it enjoys today. After serving as Crane Product Group Manager and later as Executive Vice President, Ray became President in 1985, serving in that capacity until 1994. He continued to serve Whiting as a Director until his death.
Whiting Corporation is a world leader in the engineering and manufacturing of overhead traveling cranes for industry, and of railcar maintenance equipment. Ray was a prominent force in the North American crane industry, having served as President of Crane Manufacturers Association of America. In his role there, Ray was a vocal force for high engineering standards, which would assure safety, and reliability for all crane users.
“Ray was not only an industry leader, but his strong sense of integrity and doing the right thing made him a trusted advisor to many,” said Jeffrey Kahn, current President of Whiting.
Ray is survived by his wife Sharon, son Michael Gibson, daughter Susan Brand (son-in-law Rev. Timothy) and four grandchildren.
