Reel Handling Overhead Cranes A short span overhead crane or a single leg gantry crane with a fixed hoist and two hooks at a fixed spacing is used to handle the rolls of paper from a single paper machine. The crane utilizes long plate type hooks to contact the journals at the end of the roll. The crane removes the full paper roll from the machine and replaces it with an empty roll while never interrupting the paper making process
